Cardinal offers each staff member the opportunity to become certified dementia care practitioners.
Our general population is 50 years old or over. Male and Female Residents accepted. We can accept most Residents unless the Resident has medical conditions that are prohibited by the Virginia Department of Social Services (DSS), or are listed on the Virginia state Police Sex Offender List or have a Criminal record as prohibited by State Regulations. Cardinal Senior Living is a mixed population and includes a safe secure environment for memory care services.
Cardinal believes that being active is a vital element to quality of life and is committed to providing a program that will promote our residents to be active, social and engaged. Led by a CDP (Certified Dementia Care Practitioner), our program offers a variety of options to ensure that individual resident interest are considered in the ongoing development of the program each month.
Conveniently located near route 460 and downtown Bedford, our community is easily accessible for families and visitors. Also nearby are many options for shopping, dining and outdoor activities such as the Peaks of Otter.
Cardinal has a handicap accessible van to assist residents with transport needs.
Our menus are designed with current resident interests in mind. Full service dining experience including 3 home cook meals every day (breakfast, lunch, dinner), developed by a licensed dietician, using local produce and meats.
Cardinal offers a newly added Arial nurse call system that provides our residents instant communication to our staff when they need support. In addition, we have newly added systems such as wander guard and a secure memory care wing.
Each month residents and families receive a monthly newsletter informing them of upcoming events and any pertinent information relative to our community
Our overall staff-to-resident ratio averages approx. 1 care staff to 7 residents, while our memory care ratio averages 1 to 3.
Direct care staff are onsite 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
Cardinal has a newly added wander guard system in assisted living as well as a secured environment for those requiring memory care support.
