FAQ About Manor Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care
Our independent and assisted living residents are quite active and engaged in programs and activities both at the community and in the local area. Our residents' average age is 78 to 85. Both single and married couples enjoy the spacious apartment sizes; one bedrooms average around 650 square feet and two bedroom apartments around 1,000 square feet.
We believe in giving our residents a sense of purpose. Even though they may be retired, our residents want to have a reason to get up in the morning to meet the day with new and interesting challenges and opportunities. Raised garden beds are a favorite for our gardeners, some of whom plant tomatoes or other vegetables, others care for flowers. Each garden bed takes on the personality of the resident. The names of the residents who care for their garden bed are proudly displayed on each bed. For others, trips to the casino, shopping or a local movie suits their fancy. The common areas such as the well stocked bistro, a library and a warm inviting living room creates space for residents to mingle, relax, play cards or work on puzzles individually or with friends. The book mobile from Sno-Isle Library brings an assortment of books each month. Residents are also able to order special titles for delivery the upcoming month. Fred Astaire dance classes were very popular!
Garden Court residents have options to spend time walking on the property and enjoying the quiet and beauty of the Native Growth Protection Area which is the southern boundary of the building. This area is designated by The Department of Fish and Wildlife as a "Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary". There is a Walgreens less than a 5 minute walk from the community making it convenient for our residents for shopping for incidental items. Walgreens provides delivery of prescriptions to the community at no charge. Even though we have our in house beauty salon, there is also a salon within walking distance.
Transportation to medical appointments is offered two days a week, one day going North from the community, the second day traveling South. We are also able to provide unscheduled transportation if availability and scheduling permits. Shopping excursions, mystery tours, trips to Tacoma for the auto show, the Museum of Flight to name a few.
Independent Living is offered two meals a day and assisted living residents have three meals a day offered. Favorites include the home made soups, made with fresh ingredients daily which can be a main meal in some cases. Restaurant style dining overlooking the Native Growth Protection Area creates a sense of comfort and beauty while enjoying a variety of menu items, many of which can be made to order.
Garden Court offers 24/7 security/concierge services. Side entry doors are accessed by a key fob which each resident receives at move in. The main entry door is locked between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Monthly newsletters and activity calendars are mailed to residents' families. The executive director welcomes questions and encourages family members to meet with him. Our nurse and her team will contact families with any change in condition or concern. Families are encouraged to have meals with their loved ones, attend events and family focused activities.
Care staff to resident ratios are dependent on the care need of the resident.
Grassy areas, paved walk ways and bag stations make Garden Court very amenable to keeping the pets and pet owners happy.
Monthly all staff meetings to provide ongoing continuing education training.
Garden Court does not offer safety measures for those who wander.
